Bilston Batterseas story begins in 1968, when the twentieth-century revival of English enamelling began in Bilston, with the forming of Copper Enamels (Bilston) Ltd., by the Marshall family. Two years later, the name was changed to Bilston & Battersea Enamels and an innovative venture with a London-based antiques dealer, designing boxes based on those made in Georgian times, promptly followed. It is sometimes suggested that the closing of the famous Battersea enamel factory in 1756 lead to the setting up of the Bilston enamel trade; but this cannot be the case as there is clear evidence of the trade's existence in Bilston well before 1750.
